ABOUT
I am a researcher, educator, engineer, and designer.

I'm Soo Hyeon (first name with space in between) Kim. I am an assistant professor of Library and Information Science at Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University-Indianapolis. I received my Ph.D. from Learning, Design, and Technology program at the Pennsylvania State University.
My scholarly goal is to broaden and support children’s engineering learning opportunities by transforming rural libraries and family interactions as facilitators for tech-supported maker experiences. I employ qualitative research methods to investigate learning processes in authentic contexts and examine factors within rural libraries and home environments that influence making and learning.

Previously, I worked as a project manager to develop smartphones at LG Electronics.
My educational background includes B.S. in Industrial Design from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and M.S. in Strategic Product Design, Industrial Design Engineering from TU Delft (Delft University of Technology).
